Approximately 5 miles east of Escalante you can pick up the Hole in the Rock road to access trailheads for Coyote Gulch. The Redwell trailhead is 30 miles from hwy 12 and Hurricane Wash trailhead is 33 miles. The hike from the trailhead to the Escalante river is 13 miles one way. This hike is in and out of ankle deep water (from Redwell you reach water in 11/2 to 2 miles, from Hurricane it is a dry sandy wash for 4 to 5 miles before you reach water). This route takes you into a beautiful canyon of arches, bridges and waterfalls. Please obtain an overnight permit and detailed map from the one of the visitor centers.

There are no fires allowed, dogs must be leashed and we asked that all trash including TP be carried out. 35 miles east of Escalante provides the trailhead for Coyote Gulch: one of the most visited canyons in Escalante.

Coyote Gulch also contains several arches, including Jacob Hamblin Arch and Cliff Arch, Stevens Arch can be viewed from the mouth of Coyote Gulch near the Escalante River, The heart of Coyote Gulch provides views of a beautiful gorge emptying into the Escalante River, Navajo sandstone cliffs, pebble beaches, and spectacular land formations.
